Wow, a friend of mine linked this on her facebook, and I don't know what to say. Aside from the obvious reasons why this is creepy, weird and morally wrong, this is also a huge blow to video game credibility.
Yeah, that's jacked. Though the news team seemed to be promoting going to youtube and doing searches for the game, haha. If they're so offended by it, why demonstrate how to access video from it?
Fantasy rape exists; it exists in all forms of media including gaming. As long as it remains a fantasy I have no problem with it existing and as such and being shown and explored, as entertainment or as something more serious, on all media platforms.
It should be the same with any part of human behaviour or anything we can fathom for that matter. We should absolutely stop the physical act of these horrible things, but to stop the thought and the depiction of said thought? Never.
Messed up games like this have been a staple of Japan for quite some time now. I'm actually surprised it too this long for any news outlet here to notice and make it an issue. Hell even their regular porn is pretty weird.
Yeah, and I can understand that there are some significant cultural differences. Because of that, I don't think that the women's rights activists have any right to tell Japan what they can or cannot ban. I think it's an extremely weird form of entertainment, but like Zatransis said, I don't think it should be banned when there are games in which the whole point is to kill other human beings. It seems a little hypocritical and shows our desensitization toward murder.
It's not really any more of a blow to video game credibility than Leisure Suit Larry or BMX XXX. Porn (including rape porn) didn't discredit movies as an art form. Besides, this game has been discussed for a while now in the video game community and Japan is taking steps to make something like this illegal.
I'm not saying it's not an unsettling game, but some would say that about violence in games as well.
I completely agree with you with the violence thing. But I think CNN doing an article on it makes it more of a blow. Average soccer mom browsing the internet isn't going to give a damn if the video game community is discussing it. As soon as she sees that there's a rape video game, her attitude towards buying games for her kids changes.
That's a very good point. BTW, I was a little off. Turns out the game has already been pulled and is banned. I guess CNN later had an expert come on and they basically shut down the situation. Hopefully the mothers saw that. Doubt it, though. :/

......Not that I'd know anything about that. O_o
