Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

First I want to say thanks to all you awesome people for making me feel all warm and fuzzy inside on my birthday, I really appreciate that kindness!

I saw a few other people post journals like this, and I feel like I should probably do something similar:

I want to apologize to all of you in the form of that obligatory "I'm sorry for not posting" journal. I feel like it's a rite of passage here on deviantart, and unfortunately like many artists here, I've hit that point where all the art I'm doing is for work and for clients and I can't show any of it.

When I'm not working, I'm spending all of my time trying to learn about writing and storytelling as I develop a personal project I've been working on for the last couple of months. Hopefully I'll have something to show by early next year for that.

Thanks again for the birthday wishes, for your patience, and I'm honored by the surge of new watchers!
