JLA CG Concepts - Batman by DanielAraya JLA CG Concepts - Batman by DanielAraya
A few weeks ago, just for fun I started doing concepts for a faux Justice League CG movie. I've always been a huge fan of Bruce Timm and the DC Timmverse he helped create, and I thought it would be cool to basically design the JLA movie that I would direct if given the chance. I didn't do any huge drastic changes because I didn't want to betray the characters in terms of who they are and what they're about. I just wanted to build on what's already been established and tweak things the way I saw them. I was going to wait until I had more artwork before I posted this, but with all the freelance I've got, I don't think I'll be able to work on this again for a while.

THIS IMAGE: I wanted Batman to be composed of triangular shapes to emphasize how dangerous he is. I also didn't want to draw him big and bulky because in my version he's primarily an acrobat, not a bodybuilder. He's constantly doing flips and jumping off rooftops, so he'd be extremely lean. I also gave him the more armored costume because

1) It looks cool

2) Having an outfit that looks more like protective gear while everyone else is wearing more "costume-y" outfits visually reinforces the fact that he's human and mortal. It reminds us that he NEEDS this to protect him and that's a trait that I (and I think most people) like about batman.

I also made Batman's skin even more pale here than in the Bruce Wayne pic to further emphasize the lack of warmth in Batman, and it also helped to add more contrast against the darkness of his suit. I like the idea of his face being that one little speck of pale, cold, humanity peeking out from this huge enveloping shroud of darkness.

Thanks! This one's a little old, I think I'd do things differently if I were to do this again.

I would like to ask for your permission to use this concept art for sculpting. Just as a hobby! I'll remember to credit your original piece if I ever post mine online. Wonderful work as always!

All i gotta say is - wow!
I really love the way he looks: he's lean, but still has the sense of dangerousness about him, that just screams, "Don't mess with the bats"

I love your work! with clean cut styling and smooth outlines, this costume is one of my preferred look for Batman amongst the many others done out there. Keep it up man, and the point that Batman is more of an acrobat rather than a muscle-bound hero, exactly fits my interpretation of him also. (which is my only complaint on the Arkham game series) Actually, I agree with you an all levels of your self-commentary...heheh..cheers!

Damn. That is completely badass. And yeah, I like this lean look to him. He still has the height and the power to him but he doesn't look like a mountain either. And this is a great concept for a movie. I'd watch it. :) Great work.

I really love this costume, definitely a sense of practicality and focus on protection balancing the look. Plus I love any mask that gives a decent excuse for the white "pupiless" look used in cartoons and comics. Plus that outfit and Batsy himself looks EVER so pointy. I like a pale Batman, just because he spends most of his time in a cave or prowling the streets at night.
As for the lean look, while I agree that he should be more than, say, Superman, I feel as though Bats should always carry a muscular, broad air of intimidation. He isn't overly flippy, and relies on his physical, dominating strength just as much as his speed and reflexes. He should be someone who looks just as capable of dodging a gunshot as punching through a wall. If you want a character built for agility and acrobatics, try Robin or Nightwing.
Excellent work. Fav'd.

I love your design of the Batsuit. Very realistic and practical. Also the the more slender Batman makes since to me as well. I do hope you get to work on your CG movie though. If your ideas are anything close to how your Batman concept is. I'm sure I and all of us will enjoy it.

This is one of the best redesigns of the batsuit that i've ever seen. It's classic, but also very realistic and modern, like the it was made with kevlar, lightwight body armor, and material you would find in a reverse engineering R&D lab on a military base. Which is what the batsuit should be! Not spandex, not crazy unexplained sci-fi/unrealistic material you can only find in comic books. It should look militeristic, flexable, and intimidating. Make it so that it's still the classic look, but add in those realistic details to make Batman seem like an actual threat to criminals like you did here. Great job! I especially like how your Batman looks like a cross between the Dark Knight Trilogy batsuit and the batsuit from the Arkham game series. My one suggestion to you, though, would be to make his cowl helmet seperate from his neck gaurds, that way it'll allow him to turn and swival his neck while ot in the field. Again, great job! (P.S. kudos on making Batman look different from Superman. All the while they look like they have the same build and face. Even in the Justice League animated series, when unmasked, Batman and Superman looked so much alike I could only tell which was which when they spoke.)

Yeah, this one has so much more personality, a possible season 2 suit perhaps? If they give Alfred a moustache as well, and maybe introduce the Joker too, I'm so going to go crazy with Beware the Bat.

I've always been a big Batman fan. You're take is easily one of the best renditions of the Dark Knight I think I've ever seen. Looks like the Batman we're all used to but very realistic, without going all black like the movies usually do (which is a little annoying). My only suggested change would be extending the wings with a second layer of points but wow, looks amazing!

Not much I hope. In a way the symbol is also cool though in that it feels kind of Nightwingish, so it's almost like a Dick Grayson second generation Batman.
